School District & IEP Meeting Interpreters
Speakr LLC works with school districts to provide interpreters for IEP and 504 meetings, parent-teacher conferences, enrollment, discipline hearings and family events, on-site, by phone or by video.
Our interpreters know special education terminology and FERPA confidentiality, so families can take part as real members of the team.

Interpreters Are Part of IEP Compliance
Under IDEA, a school must take whatever action is necessary to ensure that parents understand the proceedings of an IEP meeting, including arranging an interpreter for parents whose native language is not English or who are deaf (34 CFR 300.322(e)). Federal civil rights guidance also expects schools to communicate with limited-English-proficient parents in a language they understand. Using a sibling or a bilingual aide to interpret an IEP meeting puts both the family and the district at risk.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a school have to provide an interpreter for an IEP meeting?
Yes. IDEA requires the school to take whatever action is necessary to ensure parents understand IEP meeting proceedings, including arranging an interpreter for parents who are deaf or whose native language is not English.
Can you also translate the IEP document?
Yes. We translate IEPs, evaluation reports, prior written notices and other school documents.
Do you work with individual parents?
Interpreters for school meetings are normally arranged and paid for by the school district. If you are a parent, ask your school to request an interpreter; we are happy to work with them.
